Private Lessons
Hurray! You've decided to take private lessons. Here are some
resources to help you get started.
Every time you have a lesson you must bring your instrument, rosin,
music book, pencil and notepad. Some other helpful things for home
practice may be a cello belt or rock stop (to stop slipping on the
floor), a music stand, a soft cloth to clean your cello, and a
metronome to help you keep the steady beat.

Try the Berlin Philharmonic's: Move the cellists bow by using
your mouse in time with Camille Saint Saen's "the Swan" from
Carnival of the Animals. (This is hard. I think I got butcher the
first time I played it! ha!)

Webber (Yes, is Andrew Lloyd Webber's Brother)

Musician: Practice, Practice, PRACTICE!!
Practicing is the only way to really learn, appreciate, and fall in love
with your instrument! Every person has their own unique sounds
and gifts. If it doesn't sound the way you want it right away, it will
get better...with PRACTICE. I recommend different amounts of
practice depending on the age and life style of the student. Notate
the suggested practice pieces in your notebook at each lesson.
Making it a challenge and a game helps to keep you motivated and
encouraged. Practice goals may be a home reward, a family
performance, or even something bigger like a recital. Whatever it
may be, enjoy playing your cello!
Know your instrument and how it
works. There isn't much holding a
cello together besides tension on the
strings. The wood is sensitive to
hot and cold and it strongly dislikes
moisture! Strings will break with
normal wear and tear. Bow hair
will break as well. Relax, there are
hundreds of back ups. We really
aim to avoid cracks and swelling.
If you have a question, call a
trusted repair man. Don't try to fix
it yourself unless you are sure of
what you are doing.
